Open House Week - May 5-9, 2008

You are all invited to try out some of our PE activities this Thursday from 6:30 -7:30 P.M. during Open House. We would love to see you there!

First Aid Facts - shock

Kindergarten - balance; batting from a tee
1st and 2nd Grades - balance beam with manipulatives
3rd Grade - softball skills
4th Grade - final week of Ducks street hockey
5th Grade - Olympics, team competition

Grades 4 and 5 - PE projects are due Thursday May 22. There is a waiting list to check out pedometers so I recommend choosing a different project.
Choices listed below.

25 Mile Club
Complete one 25 Mile Club chart. Each 15 minutes of non-stop aerobic exercise counts as one mile. To fill in a box write the date and what activity was done. Each box must be individually filled out, no repeat signs. Sports team practice or games may count toward the 25 Mile Club if the activity is continuous and aerobic. Generally there are portions of a practice that are business and instruction as well as rest/drink breaks. Count only the portions that are non-stop for 15 minutes (or more) and increase the heart rate. You must turn in the record of your work on an official 25 Mile Club form and it must be signed by your parent.

Pedometer Project
For this project you will be checking out and wearing a pedometer for 5 days in the space of a week. Are you taking the recommended number of steps per day for your age - 11,000? You must have signed permission from both your teacher and your parent. When I receive it I will check out a pedometer to you. Wear it for 5 days, record the number of steps you take each day and answer the questions on the form. Turn the pedometer and the form back in and voila! - you have completed your project.

Athlete Biography

Choose a well known athlete. Write a one page report in your own words. Include in your report information about his/her early life, participation in athletics, awards and honors, at least one positive character quality this person shows, why you chose this athlete, and other information you found that was interesting about this person.

Olympics Report
The 2008 Olympics will be held in Beijing, China from August 8 – 24, 2008. You may do a one page written report either about the Bejing games in general or about one particular event. A report about the Beijing games should include information about preparing for the games; the logo and mascots; the torch relay; the number of events, countries, and athletes; cultural events associated with the Olympics; and some highlights of the games. If you choose one event include information about the basic rules of the event; the venue (the place the competition is held); notable participants. Remember, the written report itself should be in your own words Check out the website, http://en.beijing2008.cn/en.shtml for information.
