Dear Parents,
This letter will cover this week as well as last week due to the time crunch I was experiencing. We had a test last week in science on the solar system and then fully launched into our desert unit. I read the class a story called Elf Owl after which we had a lesson on adjectives and located all the adjectives in sentences relating to the story of Elf Owl. The following day students located all the verbs in the sentences. After reading a page on all the unique properties of the desert Saguaro plant students wrote a charming bio poem on the Saguaro plant. I typed it and then students beautifully illustrated it on the same paper. They are displayed and will be up for Awards Day.
Bible: Last week students acted out two skits. One was about Balaam and the other was about Rahab and the Spies. This week we have had Bible talks about speaking the truth and the six or seven things that God hates from Proverbs.
Language: we are working in our workbook on adjectives and students are writing a story based on the summer spelling words in our last spelling unit.
Math: we had math test 19 A last Friday and on Tues. we had test 19B which was the retest. I was very pleased with the results for the most part. We are studying improper fractions and decimals and I am feeling that students are getting a good understanding of this. Thank you for all your support in math at home. Congratulations to Hanah for passing a two min. multiplication table test this week.
Read and Think: we finished the last one and students filled out the graph of scores they have been keeping all year and are bringing it home.
In our reading book we are reading Dream Wolf.
Spelling: We finished our last list of spelling words in our book. Next week we will have a spelling bee. Students can review the first 12 spelling lists in their book to prepare.
Field Day: this was a success on Tues. of this week and the weather was perfect.
Students leaving early: we are saying goodbye to Nathan and Bethene on Friday as this will be their last day of school.
June 6: This is Awards Day which will take place in our classroom after school family. School family will be in the gym this time. I encourage all the parents to be present at this special time.
June 12: this is the last day of school which will be a minimum day. There will be outdoor activities for most of the morning.
Auditions: the results will be posted outside of Mrs. Aspling’s door on the last week of school.
Answers to prayer: A big thank you goes to all who prayed for my son. He is now out of the hospital after four weeks and doing so much better.
Blessings,
Mrs. Doris Hungerford

Dear Parents,
We have been continuing our exciting studies about our solar system and space. Students read about the constellations and then drew a number of constellations using white pencils on black construction paper. Thursday students took an imaginary journey from earth to the edge of the cosmos as they viewed the magnificent photos taken from the Hubble telescope as it peered into outer space. The name of the book is the Universe. Later in the day for a language assignment students wrote a 5 line cinquain poem about the universe and one about the planet that he or she had studied. Students recopied it onto a circle and illustrated the poem to represent the universe or a planet.
Reading: We are reading a story called Tornado Alert and have worked in our workbooks on several reading skills. We also went to the library... Monday we had a test on the story called Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs. Friday students were tested on Tornado Alert.
Math: We had two math tests on 18 B and 18A.
Language: We had a review and had test number eleven. We are also working on nouns and verbs. Friday students wrote acronym poems about space with illustrations.
Bible: We had extensive Bible stories and lessons on unit 6 which includes the 40 years in the wilderness. Students illustrated the stories.
Spelling: Next weeks spelling is a different list of words. I made a list of words relating to the study of space and planets. The students were given input as to the choice of these words. The test will be on Thursday as usual.
Progress reports: They are being mailed out this week.
Field Day: It is Tuesday morning on May 20 from 9:30 to 11:00 A.M.
Thank you again for your prayers concerning my son Tim. He will be in rehab until the 24th of May.
Blessings,
Mrs. Doris Hungerford
